About Victoria
I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1988 graduating from Cardiff with an Honours degree. My first job was in Shropshire and I have worked in the NHS for 23 years. Most of these years have been in Shropshire, but a few months were in Gloucestershire and also in Australia. I have also completed a full-time Masters Degree in Counselling Studies at Keele University in 1994. In 2011 I decided to work solely as an Independent Therapist to bridge the ever-widening gap between the increasing number of children with communication problems and the shortfall within the NHS. Working in private practice enables me to offer more flexibility and availability for clients, their families and schools/preschools. I take speech & language therapy referrals from all over Shropshire, as well as other Counties including Gwynedd, Powys, Wrexham, Staffordshire, and Cheshire. Other areas may also be possible.
I am a Senior Specialist Therapist; my specialisms stem from extensive postgraduate training and include research and audit into effective, evidence-based treatments for children with a wide range of communication difficulties. I have particularly focussed on early intervention and parent partnership in therapy. I work with both pre-school and school-age children who present with pronunciation, language or stammering difficulties. I specialise in working with children aged 2 years to 11 years old. I always work collaboratively and work with a wide range of professionals such as:
- health visitors
- school and pre-school staff
- educational psychologists
- occupational therapists
- paediatricians
I am registered with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP).
As well as my professional life as a Speech and Language Therapist, I am married and am a mother of two children. Since having my own children, I have developed my practice to reflect what I would look for as a parent, and I provide a Speech and Language Therapy service that is flexible, fits around family life and is tailored to each child.
